Geek-Out: Raw helmets!
By Tom Jackson
Yeah, yeah… I missed last night’s Geek-Out, but I had good reason: Started grad school, pursuing my Master’s degree in English/Writing at Bradley University. Great school: My wife works there, my daughter graduated from there, my youngest son is a junior there. I’m fulfilling a lifelong dream of following in my children’s footsteps.
Another lifelong dream — or at least a dream I’ve had for the last week or so: To create a couple more awesome works of DIY “helmart.”
So here’s a two-fer! Look at these babies. Is there anything as full of beautiful promise and possibilities as blank helmets? Like a canvas, white with freshlly dried gesso, on an easel. Or a blank sheet of paper in a typewriter.
What? Don’t know what that is?!
OK, how about this: A blank new Word doc on your laptop.
So I have a couple of cans — one red, and one white — of outdoor spray paint specially for plastic. I already mentioned what I intended to do with the royal blue one, and I think that navy one is gonna have a red bill and halo on it.
Although I could take the easy route with the royal one and stick my authentic Cubs cloth decal on it.
Naw, I’m gonna spray the HECK outta that puppy!
